Bullhead City Overview
Bullhead City Ariz. lies on the recreational waters of the Colorado River just below the massive Mohave Lake and just across the river from Laughlin, Nevada where 24 hour bright lights accent high-rise casino hotels. Gold miners originally settled this area in the mid 1880s and was originally named Hardyville after William Hardy who operated a ferry, trading post and inn on the river in 1864. The modern evolution of Bullhead City began with the construction of Davis Dam in 1942 which formed Lake Mohave. Today, a taxi-ferry connects Bullhead City with Laughlin.

The river attracts water-skiing enthusiasts and fishermen that will discover endless enjoyment on the river below Davis Dam and on Mohave Lake. The largest freshwater striped bass (58 pounds) was caught in 1980 just below the dam. Largemouth bass, trout, trophy catfish and native species are abundant in the area. No need to visit Las Vegas. It’s all right here across from Bullhead City where it’s more affordable and laid back. Wildlife is abundant here where frequent sightings of coyote, fox, bighorn sheep and even wild horses and burros can be experienced by nature lovers.
