About Kingman
The small town that bustles with activity. Kingman is the Arizona gateway to the Hoover Dam, Laughlin Nevada, Las Vegas, the Colorado River, Lake Mohave and the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. As you can see, Kingman is a vacation traffic center in many directions and an ideal home base while visiting its many Arizona attractions.
Kingman was originally established a railroad stop in 1883 named after Lewis Kingman, an engineer surveyor for the railroad. Today Kingman and the surrounding area is a thriving community of about 40,000 friendly people that share the common enjoyment of fresh air, wide-open spaces, the scenic beauty of the surrounding mountains and proximity to recreation highlights. Few outside Kingman know that a quaint Methodist Church in Kingman was the marriage spot of Clark Gable and Carole Lombard or that famous western-movie actor Andy Devine grew up in Kingman Az.
Kingman is a very short drive from Laughlin, Nevada, the casino and nightlife center on the Colorado River. Adjacent to Laughlin and Bullhead City, Arizona is Lake Mohave a 67-mile long lake with a wealth of water recreation attractions including boating, camping and fishing. Hoover Dam and the massive Lake Mead is within about 65 miles from Kingman and Las Vegas is about 115 miles from Kingman. The Grand Canyon West Rim is within a two-hour scenic drive. Fourteen miles southeast of Kingman lies the beautiful Hualapai Mountain Park, an overnight camping, picnicing and hiking spot at an elevation of 6,700 feet. There is a plethora of old mining camp ruins and ghost towns that preserve the heritage and old west charm of Kingman Arizona. For more information, visit the Kingman Tourism website.
